William Perkins

William Milzie "Bill" Perkins, 90, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 in the Life Care Center after an illness of several months.

He was born on March 12, 1918 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Clarence Ellington (Benny) Perkins and Versie Riddle Perkins.

Mr. Perkins was a farmer and a United States Army Veteran having served during World War II. He was a member of the United Baptist Church, former Rowan County Farm Bureau Director and Rowan County Soil Conservation Board Member. He was instrumental in conservation and using the land wisely and he also enjoyed gardening and traveling.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clell Perkins and three sisters, Hazel Lewis, Lela Pearl Perkins and Anna Newman.

Survivors include his wife, Murrell Roe Perkins, whom he married on January 29, 1946, of Morehead, four sons, Glennis Perkins and his wife, Cara of Fairfield, Iowa, Jerry Perkins and his wife, Joyce, Roy Perkins and his wife, Rita and Troy Perkins and his wife, Glenna all of Morehead, five brothers, Millard Perkins and Cleo Perkins both of Springfield, Ohio, Raymond Perkins of Lawrenceburg, Herbert Perkins of Shelbyville and Wilburn Perkins of Benton, Arkansas, two sisters, Olive Scaggs of Mt. Sterling and Grace Veneaua of Boston, Massachusetts, seven grandchildren, Angela Wages, Tracy Perkins, Kevin Perkins, Corey Perkins, Nathan Perkins, Justin Perkins and Morgan Perkins, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 19, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Elder Louie Bear, Elder Eury Barker and Elder Oathar Messer officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery on Jones Ridge. Full military rites will be conducted at the graveside by Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Saturday and 6:00 P.M. Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Angela Wages, Tracy Perkins, Kevin Perkins, Corey Perkins, Nathan Perkins, Justin Perkins, Morgan Perkins and Tyler Wages and honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Gamble, Andy Slusher, Johnny Cox, Charlie Winkleman, Sam Hughes and Wayne Black.
