Velta Shay

Mrs. Velta Thornsberry Shay, 91, of Soldier, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2009 in the Life Care Center.

She was born on July 8, 1917 in Morgan County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Pete and Alice Sergent Thornsberry.

Mrs. Shay was retired from Cowden's Manufacturing. She was a member of the Soldier Church of God and enjoyed quilting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlow Shay, who passed away on March 23, 1967, two brothers, Gladie Thornsberry and Kelly Thornsberry and two sisters, Vernon Snowden and Gladys Conley.

Survivors include one brother-in-law, John Conley of Lexington, two sisters-in-law, Kathleen Thornsberry of Olive Hill and Phyllis Thornsberry formerly of Dayton, Ohio and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 1, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Gayle Price officiating. Burial will follow in the Patton Cemetery at Soldier. Visitation is after 11:00 A.M. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be great-nephews.
