Valetta Kay Collins was born in Morehead, Kentucky on February 14, 1959 to Harold and Maxine Black Collins. She departed this life at her home in Clearfield, Kentucky on March 31, 2007 at the age of 48 years 1 month and 17 days. Valetta was a 1977 graduate of Rowan County High School. She earned her bachelors degree in biology from Morehead State University in 1981 and a bachelors in medical technology from St. Joseph Hospital School of Medical Technology in 1982. She began her career as a clinical lab scientist at St. Claire Medical Center in 1982. She worked as a generalist in the lab 5 years, was the Microbiology Section Manager for 6 years, and was the Primary Care Laboratory Director 6 years. In 1999, she accepted a position as a laboratory inspector for the Commonwealth of Kentucky Office of the Inspector General where she inspected medical labs throughout the state for compliance with federal and state regulations. She was a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. She accepted Christ as her personal savior in May 1996. She was a member of the Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God where she served as Sunday School secretary, church treasurer, Sunday School teacher, bus driver, back up sound operator, served on the pulpit committee, and was a member of the Board of Trustees. Valetta enjoyed boating, camping and travel. She found joy in her many friends. She was an avid bird watcher and traveled throughout the United States for an opportunity to see new species. Survivors include her parents Harold and Maxine Black Collins of Clearfield, Kentucky, One sister, Linda Gagnon and her husband Henri of Westland, Michigan, A niece Deanna Jorgensen and her husband John of Williamsburg, Michigan, a nephew Jason Gagnon of Garden City, Michigan; One great niece and one great nephew; one uncle Ray Collins of Clearfield and many loving cousins, friends and other relatives. Funeral services will be conducted 10:45 A.M. Wednesday at the Clearfield Tabernacle First Church of God with Rev. Gary McQuain and Rev. Max Molihan officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home after 2:30 P.M. Tuesday.
