Mrs. Thelma Christine Gray, 78, of Flemingsburg, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 in the Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg after an extended illness.
She was born on January 31, 1934 in Nicholas County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Samuel Henry George and Bessie Sapp George.
Mrs. Gray and her husband owned and operated Gray's Grocery in Cowan for several years and she was a clerk for Roy C. Williams Real Estate and Auction Agency for many years. Thelma retired from the job she loved the most, a salesclerk for the Ben Franklin Store in Flemingsburg. She was a member of the Ishmael Chapel Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, cross stitching, cooking, canning, gardening, flowers, reading and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Kenneth Gray, who passed away on July 6, 1997, three brothers, Houston George, Lloyd George and Carl Royce George and three sisters, Dorothy Curtis, Lillie Bowles and Ruby Smart.
Survivors include three sons, Ricky (Peggy) Gray of Elizaville, Mike (Lisa) Gray of Morehead and Greg (Debbie) Gray of Ewing, one daughter, Barbara (Jack) Applegate of Mason County, one sister, Wanda (Tommy) Williams of Louisville, eight grandchildren, Whitt Gray, Richie Gray, Deana (Brian) Thornsburg, Becky Jolly, Sarah Jane Gray, Rayann Christine Gray, Justin Gray and Jason Gray, three step-grandchildren, Darren Applegate, Jeremy (Sarah) Applegate and Larren Applegate, four great-grandchildren, Austin Thornsburg, Colton Thornsburg, Brooklyn Jolly and Morgan Ishmael, three step-great-grandchildren, Jera Applegate, Kaylee Holland and Kasey Applegate, her sister-in-law, Emma Harbett of Flemingsburg and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 14, 2012 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Harley Sexton, Jr. officiating.
Burial will follow in the Elizaville Cemetery.
Visitation is after 4:00 P.M. Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Whitt Gray, Richie Gray, Justin Gray, Jason Gray, Darren Applegate and Jeremy Applegate.
