Sanford Dewitt Boyd, 79, of Stockton Road - Wallingford, Kentucky passed away Friday, January 5, 2007 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington after an extended illness.
He was born on November 9, 1927 in Rowan County, Kentucky to the late J. W. and Sarah Debord Boyd.
Mr. Boyd was a retired Lt. Colonel from the United States Army having served for 22 A½ years. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. Mr. Boyd was a Christian, an avid fisherman, enjoyed yard work and loved his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Boyd and Raymond Boyd and one sister, Edna Tabor.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen Colby Boyd, whom he married on November 14, 1989, of Wallingford, two sons, Sanford D. Boyd II of Arlington, Washington and James William Boyd II of Aurora, Colorado, four daughters, Sandra Walrab of Russells Point, Ohio, Jeni Rader of Pineville, Missouri, Suzanne Boyd of Leavenworth, Kansas and Charla Ronnberg of Raymore, Missouri, one brother, Roy Boyd of Clearfield, two sisters, Beulah Ball and Virgie Lewis both of Morehead, sixteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 11, 2007 at the Sunrise Sunset Cemetery off Old House Creek with Brother Randy Smith officiating. Military rites will be presented by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126. There is no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans or a favorite charity.
