Ruth Horton

Mrs. Ruth Evans Horton, 86, of Morehead, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born on October 24, 1929 in Haldeman, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Ralph and Mabel Turner Evans.

Mrs. Horton was a retired cook for the Rowan County School System and a private housekeeper.

She was a member of the Haldeman Church of God and attended Heritage Freewill Baptist Church in Ashland with her daughter.

Ruth and her husband, Roe were well known throughout the area for singing at many funerals, church services and revivals.

She was an avid Kentucky Wildcats fan, enjoyed playing Bingo at Cave Run Manor and loved going out to eat at Cracker Barrel.  Ruth enjoyed listening to Bluegrass music, especially Saturday and Sunday Radio Shows.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Monroe “Roe” Horton, Jr., who passed away on July 20, 2012, one son, Billy Horton, two daughters, Rita Faye Horton and Gerri Horton, three brothers, Jack Evans, Ora Evans and Frank Evans, four sisters, Bessie Jean Middleton, Sue Messer, Wilma Gearhart and Jessie Rivers and two grandsons, Timothy Ray Tackett, Jr. and Jonathan Joe Tackett.

Survivors include two sons, Marty Horton of Morehead and Danny Horton of Louisville, three daughters, Judy Jessing of Braselton, Georgia, Debbie (Freddy) Armstrong of Morehead and Joy (Tim) Tackett of Ashland, one sister, Edna Middleton of Yorktown, Indiana, six grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, special caregivers, Melany Workman and all of the girls at Cave Run Manor and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 17, 2016 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Brother Don Rivers and Brother Mitch Roe officiating.

Burial will follow in the New Sill Cemetery at Haldeman.

Visitation is from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Chris Tackett, Jason Armstrong, Tammy Cates, Kalie Horton, Cody Tackett, Timmy Joe Tackett, Justin Horton and Gary Wayne Messer.
