Mrs. Ruby Lillian Lewis Vencill, 98, of Morehead, passed away Monday, January 20, 2014 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.

She was born on July 25, 1915 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John Anders Lewis and Sarah Adams Lewis.

Mrs. Vencill was retired from the Rowan County School System, where she taught and was the director of the food services program for over 20 years. She was a graduate of Morehead High School and Morehead State University. Ruby was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Order of the Eastern Star 227, Rowan County Retired Teachers and The Red Hatters. She enjoyed cooking and had published a cookbook, "The Art of Good Cooking". Ruby was involved with the Morehead High School reunion, she enjoyed playing Bingo at Shoney's and she had written her autobiography.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth McKee Vencill, who passed away on October 7, 1985, one son, Kermit Lewis (Sonny) Vencill, who passed away on December 5, 1985, three brothers, Kenneth Lewis, Johnny Lewis and C. Roger Lewis and five sisters, Marie Adkins, Lula Eldridge, Sue Coleman, Bernice Barber and Vivian Heitz.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth McKee Vencill II and his wife, Barbara of Morehead, one sister, Juanita Gais of Florissant, Missouri, three grandchildren, Sarah Lynette Vencill of Maysville, Kermit Lewis Vencill II and his wife, Laura Rucker of Morehead and Katrina Meegan Vencill Venters and her husband, William Edward Venters III of Cedar Lake, Indiana, one great-grandson, William Edward Venters IV and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 23, 2014 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Dr. J. D. Reeder officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Eastern Star services will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday by the Order of the Eastern Star 227.

Pallbearers will be nephews.
