Rebecca Anne Wegener Walker

July 12, 1947 - November 24, 2023

Our dear precious mother, and beloved daughter of Heavenly Parents, went to her Heavenly Home on November 24, 2023.  Rebecca Anne Wegener Walker (Becky) was born on July 12, 1947 to Lois Caroline Westover Wegener and Wilfred Kӧnig Wegener in Salt Lake City, Utah. She grew up in Salt Lake City until the age of 3 when she moved to Richfield, Utah. As a child, she loved taking hula and ballet lessons, and swimming. She was proud to earn her Junior Life Saving Certification as a teenager. When Becky’s mother died in August of 1964, Becky, age 17, helped raise her siblings during her senior year at Richfield High School where she had been active in choirs and Future Home-Makers of America. Upon graduating in 1965, she attended the College of Southern Utah for a year and a half. Becky married Melvin B. Walker on March 15, 1967 in the St. George, Utah Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and 32 years later they divorced. She raised five children and took care of her grandchildren for various periods of time. She worked side-by-side with her husband and children at DHIA (a dairy job) testing cows’ milk and working on the farm at all hours of the night. She taught her children to be missionaries: four of whom served full time missions and one of whom shared the gospel as a Sergeant in the military.  Becky returned to college and completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education with a minor in Music before her 49th birthday. She was a paraprofessional for two special needs children. She also worked in a telemarketing company where she learned great skills in communication.

Becky served faithfully in many callings in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, including Primary teacher, Primary and Relief Society pianist, Relief Society Visiting Teacher and Ministering Sister, Primary Secretary, and Ward Librarian. She was continuously working on family history and sharing the stories that had been passed down to her. Later in life, Becky served a Mission for her church in the St. George Utah, member locator mission from 2008-2010.  After her mission Becky was able to spend time being with her grandchildren, and finally settled down to live with her daughter, Charlene and be a granny-nanny. Before she reached the age of 70, she completed her Young Women’s Recognition with the culminating project of memorizing “The Living Christ” which she repeated almost every evening, helping her attain her Young Women’s medallion.

Becky was blessed with a myriad of gifts and talents, especially her faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ. Like the widow from the New Testament, she gave all her mite- she consecrated all the living that she had- to God and everyone she came in contact with: including handing out pass-along cards and inviting her doctors, beauticians and any person she met to come to church and learn about the gospel.

Becky loved music, especially the Music of Zion, and she used her love of music to learn to play the piano and sing in church choirs and with the Delano Diamonds sharing her testimony through the music that she cherished.  She taught her love of music to her children and grandchildren helping them to grow closer to the Savior.  Becky had to follow a very strict diet, yet she made the most delicious meals and desserts. She could take almost nothing and turn it into the most fantastic meal. Among her greatest treasures were her testimony of the Savior, Jesus Christ, her Temple Recommend, and most of all, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Becky never strayed from her beliefs through all of her trials and tribulations. She has always modeled that families are forever, “No empty chairs.”

Becky is preceded in death by her parents: her mother Lois Caroline Westover Wegener & her father Wilfred Kӧnig Wegener; her step-parents Geoffrey and Elaine Harris; her sisters Sylvia June Wegener, Linda Jill Bonella, Wendy Lou Casperson; her half-brother John Frederick Wegener; and a grandchild, Cassandra Judd.

Becky is survived by her Children: Annette (Daniel) Judd, Bernard (Sarah) Walker, Charlene (Casey) Cosgriff, Suzanne (Richard) Ivie, Michael (Angela) Walker; her siblings Jeanette “Jeanie” (Keith) Brewer, William “Bill” (Lisa) Wegener; half-brothers Jim (Jenny) Wegener, David (Theresa) Harris; sister-in-law Lori Wegener; her grandchildren Annette’s: Chaylene, Kevin Jr (Sadie), Sylvia (Brian), Elizabeth (Will), Katelyn (Kevin); Bernard’s: Lillie, Cameron and Zachary; Charlene’s: Chiara, Benjamin, Jameson, Brigham and Michael; Suzanne’s: Zebulon, Catharina, Zoram and Zane; Michael’s: Malaina, Alia, and Alexeia; and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way.
