Mr. Ollie W. Barker, 91, of Circle Drive, Morehead, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2015 in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Lexington.
He was born on May 7, 1924 in Morgan County, Kentucky, a son of the late Russell Glen and Bessie Alice Ferguson Barker.
Mr. Barker was the owner and operator of Auto Service Centers in Kentucky and Florida. He was involved in The Big Store Furniture with the Barker family and he was also a real estate investor.
Ollie was a United States Marine Corp Veteran having served during World War II.
He was a member of the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post 126 for over 50 years.
Mr. Barker was instrumental in establishing the Rowan County Public Library, where he served on the board for many years.
Ollie was a former airplane pilot. He enjoyed politics, aviation and he was mechanically minded and could fix anything.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Wanda Fielding Barker, one brother, Elva “Curly” Barker and one sister, Blanche Barker Wheeler.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Barker (Tony) DiSanza of Ellisville, Missouri, two sons, Stephen (Carol) Barker of Morehead and Larry T. Barker of Ohio, special friend, Fran Henderson of Olive Hill, nine grandchildren, Todd Barker of Denver, Colorado, Tana Barker Fezatte of Springfield, Ohio, Theresa Barker Stacey of Ohio, Troy Barker of Aurora, Colorado, Eric DiSanza of Wichita, Kansas, Alexander DiSanza of Ellisville, Missouri, Patrick (Jessica) Barker of Lexington, Paul W. King of Flemingsburg and Denise King (Scott) Wamsley of Ashland, eleven great-grandchildren, Amanda Barker of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Alysha Barker Lacey of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Spencer, Cole, Skyler, Scout, Vanessa and D. J. Stacey all of Ohio and Beth, Jaron and Seth Fezatte of Ohio, two great-great-grandchildren, Chali Barker and Brooks Lacey, one sister, Pauline Barker (Vic) Ramey of Morehead, one brother, Clifford Barker of Morehead and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will greatly miss him.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 27, 2015 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home. The obituary, personal remembrances and remarks will be shared by family and friends.
Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.
Visitation is after 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Todd Barker, Patrick Barker, Eric DiSanza, Alexander DiSanza, Paul King and Scott Wamsley.
