Mildred Hazel Estep Fannin, 82, of Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, passed away March 7, 2011 in Tallahassee, Florida.
She was born on February 2, 1929, near Morehead in the community known at that time as Triplett, to the late Clyde and Carrie Thompson Estep.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sumterville, Florida.
Mildred wrote the following: "I have left you here on earth, but I am not alone. Those already there are my son, Curtis Wayne Gulley, by my first marriage; my parents, Clyde and Carried Estep; three sisters, infant Edna Marie Estep, Edith Sheppard and Sylvia Farr; one brother, Lawrence Estep; and my second husband, Estill J. (E.J.) Fannin, whom I married on June 8, 1956. He left us February 27, 2006.
I leave two very special people, a son, James Dale (Jim) Fannin and a grandson, Jimmy Fannin of Havana, Florida. I leave two sisters, Ruth Estep of Alvin, Texas, and Allene Maschke of Paris, Kentucky; three sisters-in-law, Iva Adkins of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Elizabeth Lacy of Louisville, Kentucky and Dale Fannin of Frankfort, Kentucky. I also leave many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including a family friend, Art O'Hara of St. Petersburg, Florida, who called me "Mom".
I grew up in a close-knit family and we have maintained that closeness throughout the years although we were miles apart. We were taught to have strong values, respect others, to live on our income regardless of how small, and to help those less fortunate.
An early memory was walking over a mile to the one room Clark School. My father drove one of the buses in Rowan County but it was only for high school students and I had to walk. Life was tough in those days.
Things changed when I married again, had a second son and became a stay-at-home mother. My life has been interesting and I am very blessed."
Graveside memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 22, 2011 at the Estep Cemetery on Kentucky 377 with Rev. Lloyd Dean officiating.
Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.
