Margaret Sue Ashcraft, 70, of Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2020 at St. Joseph Hospital-Main in Lexington.
She was born on January 24, 1950 in Lexington, Kentucky, a daughter of the late William P. “Art” Ashcraft and Edith Wilson Black.
Margaret was a hairdresser having worked at Woody’s Hair Shop for 48 years. She had also been the hairdresser for Life Care Center for 37 years and also the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead.
She was a member of the Morehead First Freewill Baptist Church, where she had been attending since she was 2 years old. Margaret was saved at the age of 8 in a five-day Bible club in the home of John and Pearl Barker and she was baptized when she was 12. She joined the choir when she was 12 and she joined the church when she was 16. Margaret was the choir director and a member of the Woman’s Auxiliary, where she had held several offices. She had also worked with the youth group, the youth choir, taught Sunday school, directed Vacation Bible School (VBS) for several years and was a state youth advisor for about five years
Margaret sang with the Morehead Chapter of the Sweet Adelines and she enjoyed bowling and had played for the church softball team.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step-father, Paul Black and her sister, Betty Karrick.
Survivors include her nephew, Nathan Karrick and his wife, Stephanie and their daughter, Brooke Karrick all of Fleming County, Kentucky and several special aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at the Wilmore Cemetery in Jessamine County (East College Street, Wilmore, Kentucky) with Pastor Joey Damron officiating.
There is no visitation.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Karrick, Donald Lewis, Mike Gray, Andrew Owens, Joey Damron and Bill Wells.
The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is caring for all arrangements.
