Leroy Adkins

Leroy Adkins, 78 of Elliottville, Kentucky passed away peacefully early Thursday morning December 26, 2024, at his home. He was born July 17, 1946, in Rowan County, Kentucky to the late Charles and Lilly Trent Adkins.

Leroy was a farmer having raised tobacco for many years. He had also done concrete and construction work having worked on many bridge projects in Rowan County. He enjoyed trading, raising a garden, working on his farm, squirrel hunting, collecting guns and spending time with his friends and especially his family. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ed Adkins, Kenny Adkins and Tootie Adkins.

Survivors include his wife Joann Winkleman Adkins whom he married April 4, 1970. One daughter, Kimberly Adkins Sands and her husband Roger Sands, Jr. of Elliottville. Four brothers, Coy Adkins of Morehead, Jackie Adkins of Ohio, Everett Adkins of Tennessee and Delmer Adkins of Elliottville. Three sisters, Alta Franks of Morehead, Mary Jo Mabry of Ohio and Bonni Adkins Boggs of Ohio.

Three Grandchildren, Charles Wesley Sands of Clay City, Kentucky, Jordan Lee Sands and his wife Alyssa of Georgetown, Kentucky and Dylan Ray Sands of Morehead. Two great-grandchildren, Myles Sands and Allura Sands. Also, several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Sunday, December 29, 2024 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Pastor Arnold Ison and Elder Clyde Mays officiating.

Burial will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery on Kegley Ridge.

Visitation at the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead is after 12 Noon Sunday.

Pall bearers will be Wes Sands, Jordan Sands, Dylan Sands, Johnny Adkins, Hayden Howard and Chandler Howard.

The Michael R. Gray Funeral Home, 808 Old Flemingsburg Road in Morehead is caring for all arrangements for Leroy Adkins and his family.
