Larry Joe Sturgill, 66, of Buffalo Branch, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born on April 3, 1942 in Rowan County, Kentucky, a son of Edgar Sturgill and Velma Day Landers.
Mr. Sturgill was a retired truck driver having worked for both Johnson Dairy and Spring Grove Dairy. He was a member of the Haldeman Church of God. Joe loved the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, boating, hunting, fishing, riding four wheelers and gardening. He was also a huge sports fan, especially UK basketball. But, most of all he loved his family.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, who raised him, Marion and Dovie Sparkman Sturgill and his step-father, Roy Landers.
Survivors include his wife and devoted caregiver, JoAnn Thomas Sturgill, whom he married on April 14, 1990, of Morehead, his father, Edgar Sturgill of Jonestown, Pennsylvania, his mother, Velma Day Landers of Morehead, two daughters, Jackie Jackson (Lee) and JoAnn Sturgill (Darrell) all of Morehead, two step-sons, Eddie Davis (Christina) and Darrell Davis (Sherry) all of Morehead, three brothers, Bob Landers of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ronnie Sturgill and Mike Gilliam both of Morehead and three grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Taylor Davis and Mason Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 7, 2009 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Clark and Brother Don Rivers officiating. Burial will follow in the New Sill Cemetery. Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Friday.
Pallbearers will be Jack Clark, Rick Thomas, Brent Fultz, Aaron Sturgill, Cody Sturgill and Kevin Sturgill and honorary pallbearers will be Bo Evans, Gene Evans, Grady Evans, Dan Evans, Mike Evans, Brady Evans and Rodney Evans.
