John Henry Smedley

John Smedley, 83, of Doodle Lane, Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Monday, July 3, 2023 at St. Claire HealthCare.

He was born on January 5, 1940 in Blue Diamond, Kentucky, a son of the late John Smedley and Marie Lucas Johnson.

John was a painter and he served in the United States Army, 3^rd Armor Division, Private First Class E3 as a gunner on a tank from November 1963 to November 1965, stationed in Kirch Goens, Germany.

He enjoyed collecting artifacts; was an avid reader and UK Basketball fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, John Kevin Smedley, two brothers, James Smedley and Jerry Smedley, one sister, Bette Baker and brother-in-law, Joe Rice.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Simone Rice Smedley, brother-in-law, Steve Rice and sister-in-law, Sandy Pennington all of Morehead.

At his request, there will not be any services or visitation.
