Mrs. Jean L. Swartz, 96, of Cave Run Manor Residential Community, Morehead, passed away Monday, June 29, 2015 at home.
She was born on October 14, 1918 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, a daughter of the late Mark B. Lewis and Elsie Eckles Lewis.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Ralph B. Swartz and two sisters, Elsie L. Schaeffer and Mildred L. Schatz.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Swartz (Larry) Albert, three grandsons, John L. Albert, Daniel A. Albert and Thomas G. Albert and a special nephew, Charles Schaeffer of Portland, Maine. She also leaves behind many friends and loving caregivers at Cave Run Manor.
Jean spent most of her childhood in Allentown, Pennsylvania, where she studied tap dancing for many years. After marrying, she and her husband eventually settled in Vienna, Virginia where they lived for 50 years, before moving to Morehead in 2002. Jean worked as a secretary at Flint Hill Elementary School for a number of years, but the role she most enjoyed was that of mother and grandmother. She delighted in her grandchildren and played a large part in their lives.
Jean’s love of people, laughter, and dancing defined her life and she had a compassionate and positive spirit. She will be greatly missed by all those who felt her influence and witnessed her beautiful smile.
A celebration of Jean’s life is being planned for a later date.
Michael R. Gray Funeral Home is caring for all arrangements.
