James Vernon Lewis, 89 of Morehead, Kentucky passed away Thursday, May 26, 2022, at the Life Care Center in Morehead after an extended illness. He was born February 24, 1933, in Rowan County, Kentucky to the late Chester and Monnie Moore Lewis.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Chris Aldis
Mr. Lewis was a United States Air Force veteran and had worked for the South Carolina Port Authority and as a security guard at St. Claire HealthCare. He was a UK Wildcats fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Opal Moore Lewis, one son, Brad (Mary Jo) Lewis of Homer City, Pennsylvania. Two grandchildren, Matthew Lewis and Harley (Barry) Fanguy. Two sisters, Betty Stevens of Morehead, and Sue Hagen of Elgin, Illinois. Three brothers, Denver Lewis and Clayton Lewis of Morehead and Harold Lewis of Clearwater, Florida.
Private family services will be conducted with Rev. Willie Sturgill officiating. Burial with full military rites by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126 will be in the Moore-Messer Cemetery on Christy Creek.
There is no visitation.
