James Harold Caudill

July 15, 1937 — January 5, 2025

Salisbury, North Carolina

James Harold Caudill, 87, of Salisbury, North Carolina, went to his eternal home on January 5, 2025 at his residence with his family by his side. His wish was to remain at home and the family praises God for allowing this to happen.

Harold was born July 15, 1937 to the late Eva Mae and Willie Andrew Caudill of Morehead, Kentucky. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years Freda Campbell Caudill. They were married on October 25, 1958. Also predeceased by his brother Lawrence Caudill and sister Pauline Roberts.

Harold is survived by his children - daughters, Debbie Davis of Salisbury, Teresa Hodge (Jack, Jr) of Salisbury and son, Andy Caudill (Sabrina) China Grove, North Carolina, as well as grandchildren, Tucker Osborne (Kendall), McKenna Hare (Jakob) and McGuire Caudill. Also surviving is his sister, Sue Johnson, sister- in- law, Doris Jean Caudill and many nieces and a nephew. A special wink to his niece, Diana Vaught for all her phone calls and love expressed to Harold over the years.

Harold instilled his love of hunting, fishing and playing golf into his son and grandsons. There are many memories to be cherished in dove fields, deer blinds and on the 18th hole.

Harold spent his career in agriculture first as an Agricultural Extension Agent and retired as the Agricultural Extension Chairman for Rowan County. His love for his work and the farmers he served is where he found value in what he did from day to day. His love for agriculture carried him to Armenia where he spent 6 months helping the people learn about agriculture and to make the most of their limited food supply. Harold coached a dairy judging team that advanced to nationals several times. The stories he would tell once they returned home! He was active with the Rowan County Holstein Club for over 40 years having served as District President of the Agricultural Extension Agents. He was also active with the Fair Planning Board.

Harold was proud of his service with Kiwanis where he served as past president and received the Legion of Honor award becoming a lifetime member. A special thank you to Melissa Yates for her support at meetings in helping Harold when he could no longer stand up without assistance.

GARS was a highlight of his retired years where he made lasting friendships which brought him much joy especially when his golf game was not what he had hoped for that day!

Harold was active in Sunday school at Jerusalem Baptist Church and served on various committees there before moving his membership to Cooleemee Baptist Church.

Lastly- but not last to him- Harold was a proud graduate of the University of Kentucky where he earned a Masters Degree in Agriculture. He lived and worked in the dairy barn to put himself through school. Following Kentucky football and basketball filled many Saturday afternoons.

The family wishes to thank Nevida Grubb for her special friendship and Monday Blue Bay outings with Dad. The love and attention provided by his faithful caregiver Linda Swing will never be forgotten and could never be repaid. Because of her and Alex Swing his wish to remain at home was possible.

Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, January 23, 2025 at the Caudill Cemetery at Sharkey.
