Mrs. Helen Black Whitt was born in Rowan County, Kentucky on October 16, 1940 to the late Wilbert and Missouri Combs Black. She departed this life at the St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, Kentucky on Saturday, January 12, 2008 at the age of 67 years 2 months and 26 days.

Helen was a member of the Morehead First Free Will Baptist Church where she was a memeber of the choir and the womens auxiliary, Morehead Order of the Eastern Star No. 227 where she held several offices. The Sharkey Homemakers where she was a Past President and Secretary and she enjoyed music, playing the Piano, Dulcimer, Guitar, Singing and Painting with Acrylic and Oils. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a brother Otis Black in 1991.

Survivors include her husband Herbert Whitt, Five Brothers; Palmer Black of Knox, Indiana, Wilbert "Bugs" Black, Gus Black, Dennis Black, and Kenneth Black all of Morehead. Three sisters; Vivian Spurlock of Goshen, Indiana, Joan Fouch of Morehead and Bonnie Jones of Salt Lick, Kentucky. Also several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 P.M. Tuesday (Jan. 15, 2008) in the Chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. David Starcher and Rev. Brad Bennington officiating. Burial will follow in the Black Family Cemetery at Sharkey. Friends may call at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home after 6:00 P.M. Monday. Eastern Star Services by Morehead Order of the Eastern Star No. 227 will be conducted 7:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

Serving as Pall Bearers will be Dennis Black, Gus Black, Wilbert "Bugs" Black, Palmer Black, Dwayne Wilson, Bill Patrick, Mark Black, Kenneth Black. Serving as Honorary Pall Bearers will be Jimmy Thacker, Tommy Fouch, Kenneth Spurlock, Rudy Jones, Sanford Bentley and Paul Little.
