Guthrie Hays

November 17, 1925 — June 2, 2013

Mrs. Guthrie Horton Hays, 87, of Morehead, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013 at the home of her son after an extended illness.

She was born on November 17, 1925 in Elliott County, Kentucky, a daughter of the late George and Ada Stegall Horton.

Mrs. Hays was a retired schoolteacher and librarian. She taught in one room schools and at Morehead Grade School and she also operated the bookmobile.

Mrs. Hays was a graduate of Morehead Teacher's College, a member of the First Baptist Church and a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star #227.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin K. Hays, who passed away on July 8, 2006, one son, George Edward Hays, who passed away on July 22, 1994 and three brothers, Nicky Horton, George McGinnis Horton and John Paul Horton.

Survivors include four sons, Paul G. Hays of Farmers, Mark A. (Sharon) Hays of Cincinnati, Ohio, James H. Hays of Medical Lake, Washington and John Q. (Sharon) Hays of Morehead, ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 6, 2013 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Don Mantooth officiating.

Burial will follow in the Elliott County Memory Gardens in Sandy Hook.

Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Wednesday.

Pallbearers will be family.
