George Wallace Jackson, 86, died Monday, June 21, 2010. The son of Thomas and Tinny Preston Jackson, he is survived by his son, Ron Jackson of Danville, Kentucky (Martha), a grandson, George Graham Jackson, a granddaughter, Emma Keller Jackson, and a sister Udell Webb. He was predeceased by his wife Aurola "Rodi" Kegley Jackson on July 4, 2009, brothers Alvin Jackson and Howard Jackson. After service as an Army medic during World War II, Mr. Jackson graduated from Morehead State University where he also obtained his Masters Degree in Education. His post-graduate work was at Ohio University, where he taught and collaborated on regional educational literature. Mr. Jackson was a teacher in the Dayton, Ohio public school system where he was later principal of Ruskin, Jefferson, Valerie and Belmont elementary schools and where he was to serve as Assistant Superintendent supervising the programs of several high schools, elementary and pre-school programs. Mr. Jackson retired from his public school career to become an owner in the Mountain Lodge motel in Morehead, Kentucky and to work with his wife of 62 years, Rodi, in teaching Elderhostel programs about Appalachian culture and music throughout Kentucky and the Southeast. Mr. Jackson was an avid musician who played mandolin, guitar, fiddle, harmonica, banjo and mountain dulcimer. A visitation will be held at Stith Funeral Home in Danville on Wednesday, June 23 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM and in Morehead, Kentucky at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home on Thursday, June 24, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at the Brown Cemetery in Morehead with Dr. Jack Ellis officiating at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, June 25, 2010.
