Mr. Gary Gene Eldridge, 79, of Morehead, beloved brother, uncle, friend and mentor to many, passed away Sunday, November 11, 2018 at his home after a long illness.
He was born on November 13, 1938 in Morehead, Kentucky, a son of the late Jess and Margaret Fodor Eldridge.
Gary worked his way through college as a disc jockey on the local radio station, WMOR and as a dispatcher for the Kentucky State Police. Gary had several careers over his lifetime, as an English and Drama teacher, a writer, photographer, theater director and playwright. He had several published short stories, articles in trade magazines and plays. Gary taught in Kentucky, Mississippi, Texas, Mexico and Africa. He was Director at Community theatres in Abilene and Midland, Texas. He worked in Mt. Vernon, KY mentoring adult education classes in English, writing and publishing.
He was active in local art, photography and writing projects.
Gary will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Survivors include two sisters, Anna (John) Jackson and Sharon (Jamie) Clark, nephew, John Jackson, nieces, Jessica Harrison and Erica Helton, great-nephews, Gabriel Jackson and Lucas Jackson and great-niece Charlene Helton.
At his request, there will be no services or visitation.
