Mrs. Flossie Sparks Brown, age 80 of Morehead, passed away Friday, November 14 at the Life Care Center after an extended illness.
She was born October 12, 1934 in Gates, Kentucky to the late Levi and Mary Conley Sparks. She was one of twelve children and a graduate of Haldeman High School. On April 25, 1953 she married Fred W. Brown, Sr. and together they spent the next sixty-one years devoted to building a loving home for their family.
Flossie was a devoted wife and mother who was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She enjoyed reading, cleaning, and cooking fabulous country meals. She was an excellent seamstress who made her children's clothes, quilts and crocheted blankets for each of her great-grandchildren. She was very active in the operation of the family farm. She also enjoyed raising a garden, canning, and caring for her flowers. However, her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Brown was a member of Cranston Church of God and of Johnson First Church of God. She retired after fifteen years of service from the Morehead Wal-Mart where she was the HBA Department Head.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Fred Warren Brown, Jr. on July 21, 2011 and her brother, Levi Sparks, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Fred Warren Brown, Sr. , her daughters, Teresa Marie (Rick) Dumas of Grove City, Ohio, MaryAnn Brown and Penny (Bob) Sahs, all of Morehead, and her daughter-in-law, Gina Brown of Lexington, Kentucky.
She is survived by three brothers: Jack (Shirley) Sparks and Jerry (Ilene) Sparks of Wabash, Indiana, and Ora Lee (Jane) Sparks of Morehead; and seven sisters: Margaret (George) Brooks of Harrodsburg, Kentucky, Ruth (Linville) Baldridge of Wabash, Indiana, Mattie (Paul) Coldiron of Miamisburg, Ohio, Bessie (Gene) Cooper of Vanceburg, Kentucky, and Elizabeth Chaney, Carlotta Banks, and Rebecca Ellen (Charles) Glover all of Morehead. And also a sister-in-law, Francis Barker of Salt Lick, Kentucky.
Her grandchildren include Marcus Brown, Matthew (Amy) Brown, Todd Fannin, Jason (Jennifer) Fannin, Jeremy (Denise) Fannin, Angela (Steve) Eubanks, Jared (Stefanie) Hamm, Tylar Setser and Jordan (Kelli) Bentley and fourteen great-grandchildren; Jayme Walsh Fannin, Cole Walsh Fannin, Ani Bella Fannin, Jasmine Fannin, Jadelin Fannin, Jaylie Fannin, Journey Fannin, Jaxon Fannin, Mya Dumas, Trenton Butcher Eubanks, Steven Eubanks, Micah Eubanks, Tyler Brown and Dreama Jayde Sahs.
Visitation will be at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18th. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 19th in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Furman and Rev. Jeff Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery. Pallbearers are Todd Fannin, Jason Fannin, Jared Hamm, Jordan Bentley, Jim Yoder, and Jeff Cline.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Claire Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association.
