Eleanor Queen

December 21, 1929 — September 28, 2011

Mrs. Eleanor Gullett Queen, 81, of Lexington, formerly of Morehead, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at her home.

She was born on December 21, 1929 in Morehead, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Wathan and Margie Anglin Gullett.

Mrs. Queen was a graduate of Breckinridge Training School and attended Morehead State Teacher's College. She was a member of the Morehead First Christian Church.

Eleanor started her working career in her grandmother's general store in Morehead at age 13. In addition, she worked several years at Bays Jewelry Store. Also, Eleanor and Tom owned and operated The Kentucky Restaurant for a number of years.

In the early sixty's, Eleanor had the opportunity to serve on the hospital foundation board and ultimately became the first employee of the foundation. This Foundation led to the establishment of St. Claire Hospital. Eleanor and Dr. Warren Proudfoot founded Proudfoot and Associates, along with several area physicians; which later became Cave Run Clinic. Eleanor served as the clinic manager for over 25 years.

Eleanor and Tom retired to Lexington, Kentucky in 1994, where they celebrated there 50th wedding anniversary in 1998.

Their remaining years were spent in Lexington enjoying their children and grandchildren.

"Mom was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. We were lucky to have loved her and to have been loved by her."

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, H. Thomas Queen, who passed away on May 19, 2001, brother-in-law, Rondal Hart, an infant brother, Jimmy Jerome Gullett, and nephew, John David Johnson.

Survivors include one son, Tom (Jackie) Queen of Greenup, three daughters, Janie (Don) Barker, Cindy (Calvin) Fulkerson and Laura (Dean) Martin all of Lexington, one brother, John (Sandy) Gullett of Morehead, three sisters, Margaret (Delmar) Johnson of New Albany, Indiana, Joyce Hart and Emma Lou (Jim) Gross all of Morehead, seven grandchildren, Brian (Courtney) Queen, Brad (Clerrinda) Queen, Erin Fulkerson (Derek) Hall, Kelsey Fulkerson, Samantha Martin, Hunter Martin and Nick Martin, loving friend and companion, Nora Ray and caregivers, Toya Cason and Britney Atman and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 3, 2011 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Molly Smothers officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Dean Martin, Brian Queen, Brad Queen, Hunter Martin, Nick Martin and Derek Hall and honorary pallbearers will be Terry Reynolds, Tom Boodry, Randy Oppenheimer, Jack Holley, Hubert Allen, Walter Carr, Jack Landreth, Bobby Wells, Charlie Becknell, Mike Curtis, Bill Shely, Dayne Fisher and Earl Claypoole.
