Edmund "E.A." Arthur Smith Jr., 93, of Morehead, Kentucky passed away Thursday December 15, 2022, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born April 15, 1929, in Estill Kentucky to the late Edmund A. Smith and Cora Thompson Smith.
Edmund was a graduate of Wayland High School, Wayland, Kentucky. He married V. Hope Francis on November 3, 1951, at Hazard Christian Church in Hazard, Kentucky.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky and a Masters in Personnel and Industrial Relations Management from the University of Louisville.
He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, followed by Navy Reserve duty, and retired with the rank of Captain. He worked at American Air Filter in Louisville, Kentucky, American Air Filter in St. Louis Missouri, where he was the manager Personnel and Industrial Relations; AMF in Olney, Illinois, where he was Vice President of Human Resources. He was Executive Director of Richland County Housing Authority. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Olney Chamber of Commerce for a number of years.
Edmund accepted The Lord Jesus Christ at the age of 19 and has faithfully followed him as Lord and Savior until his death. Most recently he was a member of Lakeview Community Church in Bath County.
Since a young boy, he loved the outdoors and became an avid hunter and fishermen. He was a long - time member of the East Fork and Jasper County Bass Clubs, and he always respected and supported the rules of safety and wildlife conservation.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Zella Archer and two brothers, Waldo and Gentry Smith.
Survivors include one son, Steven Ira Smith and his wife Jane of Palmyra, Virgina. One daughter, Linda Smith Dike and her husband Greg of Wellington, Kentucky. Seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services will be conducted at 10:0 0 A.M Tuesday December 20, 2022, in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home with Pastor Eddie Dennison officiating. Full military rites will be conducted at the funeral home.
Burial will follow Englewood Cemetery in Hazard Kentucky.
