Mr. Earl Allen Henson, 79 of Morehead, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Quicksand in Breathitt County, Kentucky on May 20, 1934, a son of the late Bige and Mina Hounshell Henson.
Earl attended Jackson City School and Morehead State University. He was a United States Navy Veteran, having served on the USS Brinkley Bass from September 1952 until August of 1956, during which time he was stationed in San Diego, California.
Earl began his career in forestry with the United States Forest Service in November of 1962. During his time with the Forest Service he worked in Morehead and London as a surveyor and traveled west many times to fight forest fires. He retired from forestry in January of 1998.
In 2003, Earl and Phyllis moved to Miami, Florida to be near their new grandson, Austin. He and Phyllis spent practically every day with Austin from the time they arrived in Miami until they left in 2006 and returned to Morehead.
Earl was of the Baptist faith and he enjoyed spending time with his grandson and attending auctions.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul Henson, and Mitchell Henson and two sisters Inez Henson Klesh and Sally Marie Henson Landrus.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Phyllis Ann Caudill Henson, a son, Philip Allen Henson of Miami, Florida and his beloved grandson, Austin Grant Henson of Miami, Florida.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 9, 2014 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Willie Sturgill officiating.
Burial will follow in the Caudill Family Cemetery on Lower Oak Grove Road.
Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the Corbie Ellington American Legion Post No. 126.
Visitation is after 5:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Gary Kathman, Gary Douglas Lewis, Gary Thomas Lewis, Ebony Copher, Jared Stacy and Brad Stacy.
