Dr. Milburn Richard Wheeler, 93, of Old Flemingsburg Road, Morehead, passed away Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at his home.

He was born on September 29, 1919 in Lawrence County, Kentucky, a son of the late William Henderson Wheeler and Lottie Elizabeth Hensley Wheeler.

Dr. Wheeler was a retired dentist having practiced in Morehead from June 1951 until June 1996.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps having served during World War II as a radio operator. He was stationed in Alamogordo, New Mexico, when the first atomic bomb was detonated.

Dr. Wheeler was a graduate of Morehead State University, the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville Dental School. He was of the Methodist Faith, a member of the Eastern District Dental Society, where he had served as vice president and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed boating, camping and spending time on his houseboat.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Edith Mildred Wheeler Barker.

Survivors include his wife of over 66 years, Elan Virginia Karrick Wheeler, whom he married on August 10, 1946, one son, Reginald Kenneth (Teresa) Wheeler of Morehead, four grandchildren, Danny (Shana) McGraw, Angela (Scott) Wheeler-Howard, William (Heather) Wheeler and Adam Wheeler and four great-grandchildren, Bryce Keeton, Natalie McGraw, Kyndra Howard and Allyson Wheeler.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 16, 2013 in the chapel of the Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Ray and Dr. Jack Ellis officiating.

Burial with full military honors by the Morehead American Legion Post No. 126 will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Friday.

Pallbearers will be Scott Howard, William Wheeler, Danny McGraw, Adam Wheeler, Danny Barker and Lanny Barker.

Contributions are suggested to St. Claire Hospice and Palliative Care or the Morehead First United Methodist Church.
