DR. M. LOUISE HUDNALL QUINN HICKMAN, 92, of Morehead, passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2013 in the St. Claire Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky on May 13, 1921, to the late William Martin Hudnall and Ruby Frakes Hudnall.
She graduated as Valedictorian from Little Rock High School, graduated with high distinction from Eastern Kentucky University as the Outstanding Business Student and received a Doctorate of Vocational Education from the University of Kentucky. She retired as Professor of Business at Morehead State University after 18 years of service.
She owned the Hobby Shop in Morehead with her son in the late 1990's. She was very active in the St. Claire Medical Center Auxiliary, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, President of the Kentucky Business Education Association, member of the Kentucky Vocational Association, President of Phi Kappa Phi National Honorary Society. She was awarded the Distinguished Faculty Award at MSU in 1974, Outstanding Educator of America in 1975 and Outstanding Retired Teacher of Rowan County in 1998.
Louise entered Eastern Kentucky University with two children to support and a part time job. She graduated in four years with two degrees before being hired by Morehead State University to teach Business. She obtained her doctorate at the University of Kentucky while working full time at MSU. She was truly a woman of valor who also started the Omega Spiritual Group that met in her home on a monthly basis. She was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church in Morehead, and a lover of animals, big and small.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hickman, a former husband, Elwyn F. Quinn, a brother, Lloyd C. Hudnall, and a sister, Alma Hudnall Shupe.
Survivors include a son, Keith Allen Quinn (Sheri), Morehead, and a daughter, Carol Quinn White Wittmeyer (Richard), St. Charles, MO, two step sons, John Lance Hickman (Terri), Los Angeles, CA, and Stephen Hickman (Vicki), Red Hook, NY; granddaughters, Michelle White Jackson (Shawn), St. Louis, MO, Shelley Knipp Crouch (Gary), Olive Hill, KY, Aurora Hickman Cracknell (Tony), Essex, England, and Zara Kathleen Hickman; Red Hook, NY; one grandson, Bradley Gene White (Charleen), East Dale, CA; and one great granddaughter, Julie Kathleen Knipp, Morehead.
She is also survived by three sisters, Bettye Hudnall Martenson, Winchester, VA, Nancye Hudnall Thornberry, Lakeland, FL, Drusie Hudnall Miller, Union, KY, and one brother, Virgil R. Hudnall (Myrt), Indianapolis, IN. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2014.
