Dr. Freda Kilburn

Dr. Freda Lou Patterson Kilburn, 80, of Morehead, passed away Thursday morning, August 1, 2019 at Baptist Health – Lexington after a brief illness.

She was born on July 17, 1939 in Hazard, Kentucky, a daughter of the late John and Lottie White Patterson.

Dr. Kilburn was retired from Morehead State University, where she was a professor of nursing.  She was a graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Nursing and received her PHD in nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Freda was a member of the Midland First Church of God, Phi Kappa Phi, Sigma Theta Tau and the Honorary Society of Nursing.

She loved quilting, reading, traveling, knitting and crocheting and she was an avid University of Kentucky Wildcat fan.

Freda was a well known quilter and had received numerous awards for the quilts she made.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Kilburn and two brothers, Charles Patterson and Wilson Ray Patterson.

Survivors include two sons, Tim Kilburn (June) of Hazard and  Ira Kilburn (Ambie) of Salt Lick,  one grandson, Caleb Kilburn of Louisville, four brothers, Tom Patterson, Herbie Patterson and Dickie Patterson all of Hazard and Roy Patterson of Myrtle Beach, one sister, Sharon Caudill of Corbin and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 5, 2019 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Pastor Bush Stevenson officiating.

Burial will follow in the White-Francis Cemetery at Jackson.

Visitation is from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 Sunday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Ira Kilburn, Tim Kilburn, Caleb Kilburn, Jarrod Patterson, Charlie Patterson, Roy Patterson, II, John Albert Patterson, Josh Patterson and Mike Caudill.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Dr. Freda Kilburn Scholarship Fund, C/O The M.S.U. Foundation, 121 East Second Street, Morehead, Kentucky  40351.
