Mr. Dempsey McDaniel, 81, of Elliott County, passed away Thursday, June 16, 2011 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born in Elliott County, Kentucky on March 1, 1930, a son of the late William F. and Ann LeMasters McDaniel.
Dempsey lived in Elliott County, until he moved to Michigan in 1950. He was a mechanic for Heiniger Chevrolet, until he began working at Ford Motor Company. Dempsey worked at Ford Motor Company for nine years and then he started McDaniel Excavating. In 1971, he decided it was time for him to return to Kentucky. Dempsey bought the family farm and another farm. He became a farmer and had been one ever since.
Dempsey enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching ballgames, listening to gospel and bluegrass music and playing cards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Arnold McDaniel, Harshel McDaniel and infant brothers, Hess and Audie, five sisters, Sarah Quesinberry, Dixie Lowe, Maxie Mabry, Lucy Mabry and Faye Kilgore and two grandsons, Kyle Shane McDaniel and Craig Darson McDaniel.
Survivors include his loving wife, June Mabry McDaniel, whom he married on January 31, 1952, seven children, Diana (Tom) Cunningham of Belleville, Michigan, Dale (Cathy) McDaniel, Sandy (Junie) Rose and Jack (Heidi) McDaniel all of Olive Hill, Defford (Retha) McDaniel and Bill (Lyda) McDaniel all of Wallingford and Rick (Linda) Morin of Brooklyn, Michigan, seventeen grandchildren, Tracci, Chris, Chad, Jamie, Wendell, Mitchell, Matthew, Jonathon, Misstie, Joshua, Renna, Amanda, B. J., Maleigh, Jerry, Jason and Angie, thirty-one great-grandchildren, two sisters, Verna Johnson and Dora LeMaster both of Elliottville and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 20, 2011 at the New Haven Church with Pastor Jason Johnson (his grandson) and Brother Rex Sagraves officiating. Burial will follow in the McDaniel Cemetery in Elliott County.
Visitation at the family home on Mauk Ridge is after 1:00 P.M. Saturday and anytime Sunday.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Chris Cunningham, Chad Cunningham, Jamie McDaniel, Wendell McDaniel, Mitchell McDaniel, Matthew Harris, Jonathon Harris, Joshua McDaniel and B. J. McDaniel.
