Chester E. Hicks, 87, of Shelby, Ohio formerly of Morehead, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at his home.
He was born on September 23, 1923 in Morehead, Kentucky, a son of the late William and Liz Anne Hicks.
He had been a Shelby area resident since 1944. Chester had worked for the B&O Railroad and retired from Ohio Steel Tube in 1993. A member of the NRA, he was an avid gun and knife collector, who also enjoyed hunting. Chester especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and reminiscing about old times and family history.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Ines Pearl (Cline) Hicks in 1997; daughter, June Montgomery in 1994; ten brothers and sisters, Sarah Wallace, Gracie Stidam, Geneva Wallace, Corey Stidam, Rosie Galic, Lester Hicks, Reba Dickerson, Lenza Hicks, Ray Hicks and Dorothy Roach.
Survivors include eight children, Roger Hicks-James of Shiloh, Ohio, Louise Fromm of Plymouth, Ohio, Sandy Leonard of Phoenix, Arizona, Ronnie Hicks of Mansfield, Ohio, Bonnie Gushard of Shelby, Ohio, Douglas Hicks of Danville, Ohio, Robin Adkins of Mansfield, Ohio and Valonne Renee Hicks of Mansfield, Ohio, twenty-seven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at the Wallace Cemetery.
Family and friends will be gathering at 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home to go in procession to the cemetery.
