Buddie "Budd" Stidom

May 12, 1941 — September 19, 2022

Morehead

Buddie Joe “Budd” Stidom, 81, of Morehead, Kentucky, oldest son of the late Winford and Oval Hamm Stidom, passed peacefully in his sleep at Life Care Center of Morehead, on Monday, September 19, 2022.

A highly respected and much-loved educator, Budd taught for five years in the Carter County School System and over 20 years at Rowan County Senior High School, where he taught business classes and sponsored the Viking Voice newspaper.  He was recognized as one of the top student newspaper sponsors in the state on several occasions. His students recognized Budd as fun loving but fair.  His trivia questions were a regular part of his “tests”.

Budd was an active member of the Morehead Lions Club, and former member of the Morehead Jaycees, where he held various leadership positions.  He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and an avid Richard Petty NASCAR fan.  He was also a lifelong admirer of the Ventures musical group, which led to a decades-long friendship with fellow Ventures fan, John Magee.

Budd was a voracious reader and music album collector. He was an active member of Johnson First Church of God.

In addition to his parents, Budd was preceded in death by his nephew, Phillip Stidom (December 22, 2021) and sister-in-law, Charlotte Black Stidom (June 22, 2022).

He is survived by two brothers, Richard (Sharon) Stidom of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Larry Stidom of Indianapolis, Indiana; two sisters, Jeanie (Jerry) Scruggs and Janie Hinton, both of Morehead, Kentucky.  He is also survived by one niece, Jessi (Jeff) Ferguson of Morehead, Kentucky and four nephews: Jason (Stacy) Wright of Boynton Beach, Florida; Michael Wright of Greenville, South Carolina; Matthew Wright of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and Kyle (Kellie) Stidom of Centennial, Colorado.  In addition, he leaves behind three great-nieces, four great-nephews, and cousins and friends too numerous to mention.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 26, 2022 at Johnson First Church of God, 590 Cranston Road, with Rev. Ben Furman officiating.

The funeral service will be livestreamed on the Johnson First Church of God Facebook page.

Interment will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be: Jason Wright, Jeff Ferguson, Greg Stidom, Tom Stidom, David Nutter, John Magee, Eric Jones, and Bill Hurst.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Tuesday-morning Frosty Freeze breakfast men.
