Bernice Gulley

Bernice Christian Gulley went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 17th at 100 years of age.  A resident of Morehead, Kentucky, she departed peacefully with her children at her side.

Bernice was born on November 21, 1920 in Rowan County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Herbert and Mamie Sturgill Christian and one of seven siblings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Gulley and siblings, Marie Gulley, Ralph Christian, Carl Christian, Verner Christian and Claude Christian.

She was of the Church of God faith.

Bernice lovingly known as “Bunny” was a caring figure to many, known for her homemaking skills and generosity to all.  She had a vibrant personality that would light up the room.  In her twenties, she aided in the war effort by doing assembly work during World War II.  She would marry Alvin Gulley and they had a son and daughter; Janie and Michael Gulley.  After Alvin’s passing in 1955, she moved from Ohio, to establish a home in Morehead where she raised her children.

She was employed as a sales clerk at Layne’s and Judy’s department store until retirement.

Bernice enjoyed fine art, crafting beautiful quilts, and making ceramics.  She loved cooking for and spending time with her family and friends.

Her memory will be cherished always by her adoring family.  She is survived by her son, Michael Gulley and his wife, Martha of Salt Lick, Kentucky and her daughter, Janie Waltz and her husband, Rick of Morehead, grandchildren, Jeanne Oney, Mark Gulley, Emily Waltz, and Leah Waltz, great-grandchildren, Madisen Anderson, Jaiden Oney, Jaxsen Oney, and Kenzie Gulley and brother, Jimmie Christian and his wife, Doris of Franklin, Ohio.

Private family services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 19, 2020 in the chapel of the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home in Morehead with Sister Robyn Cline officiating.

Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery.

The funeral for Mrs. Bernice Christian Gulley will be livestreamed on the Michael R. Gray Funeral Home Facebook page beginning at 2 P.M. Saturday.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
