Mr. Arnold Alvin Gulley, 87, of Blackberry Drive, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2009 at his home.
He was born on June 22, 1922 in Lewis County, Kentucky, a son of the late Essie Vernon Gulley and Lona Ethel Pendland Gulley.
Mr. Gulley was a retired United States Army Master Sergeant after serving for 26 years, 6 months and 15 days. He served during World War II a�" Normandy Beach D-day +1, and DMZ Korea during the Vietnam War. Mr. Gulley was a 32nd Degree Mason and he worked for 17 A½ years civil service at Fort Benjamin Harris in Indianapolis, Indiana.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Violet Riley Gulley, who passed away on May 9, 2008, two brothers, Curtis Ancil Gulley and Herbert William Gulley and two sisters, Charlotte Gulley Parsons and Mary Irene Gulley Owens.
Survivors include nine children, Arnold Alvin Gulley, Jr. of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Carol Jane Gulley of San Jose, California, David Charles Gulley of Springfield, Maryland, Mary Susan Gulley Cappuccio of Walpole, Massachusetts, Daniel Eric Gulley of Hope, Rhode Island, Clifford Mead Gulley of MidWest City, Oklahoma, Robin Mead Gulley Martellini of N. Scituate, Rhode Island, Gail Lynn Dennen Gulley of Taunton, Massachusetts and Brian Roger Gulley of Taunton, Massachusetts, two brothers, Harold Raymond Gulley of Charlottesville, Indiana and Charles Homer Gulley of Knightstown, Indiana, three sisters, Lula Mae Gulley Williams of Mansfield, Ohio, Mildred Garnel Gulley Kline of Carthage, Indiana and Betty Lou Gulley Thurston of Rushville, Indiana, seven grandchildren, Bonnie Christina Monroe of Grass Valley, California, Clint Gulley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Kerri Gulley of Rhode Island, Hannah Dennen of Taunton, Massachussetts, Ian Dennen of Taunton, Massachussetts, Jonathan Nicholas Martellini of N. Scituate, Rhode Island and Sofia Rosana Martellini of N. Scituate, Rhode Island, one great-grandson, William Eric Keeling of Grass Valley, California and his former wife, Sarah Marion Jertson Gulley of Sacramento, California.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM. Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Todd Funeral Home in Knightstown, Indiana. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Riverside Cemetery.
Visitation at Lane-Stucky-Gray Funeral Home is after 6:00 P.M. Tuesday. Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday by the Phelps Masonic Lodge No. 482.
